The major annual event is obviously our Charity Christmas Bazaar which is usually held on the last Sunday in November. All the money raised at the Bazaar is distributed to the charities we support; this is done immediately after the Bazaar and before Christmas.
The BLA Meetings for members are held on the last Tuesday of every month from September to June. Newcomers are very welcome. There is no entrance fee, and if you are coming for the first time, please make yourself known upon arrival. Meetings normally include a presentation from a guest speaker and there are talks on a wide variety of interesting topics.
The meetings are held in the Church Hall at St. George’s Church on Núñez de Balboa 43 beginning with coffee at 10:30am; please enter through the patio door on Nuñez de Balboa and not through the Church entrance which is on the corner of Hermosilla with Nuñez de Balboa).
Lunches & Dinners
The other main annual event is the Annual Summer Lunch usually held in the patio of St. George’s Church in early June. It is often presided by our Honorary President, the wife of the current Ambassador to Madrid. The event is also used to make the formal presentation of the cheques we donate to representatives of the various charities that we support, this time specifically for children’s summer camps. Other lunches and dinners are organised regularly throughout the year.
The B.L.A. organises several other activities throughout the year. These range from cultural visits to art galleries or museum’s, or just a walk in the beautiful countryside surrounding Madrid. We also visit interesting places not too far from Madrid such as El Paular in the Lozoya Valley amongst other places.
